In Development

Clickety Split is preparing its next generation of integrated wireless keyboard hardware.

MNML and Chiisai are currently in development, with prototype testing, PCB fabrication, and production preparation underway. These designs represent the next chapter for Clickety Split: cleaner integration, fewer separate modules, thoughtful wireless design, and a continued focus on practical split keyboard hardware.

PCBs are currently being fabricated, with early boards expected near the end of July or early August 2026. If testing and assembly go well, initial availability is currently targeted for mid-August 2026.

Availability dates may shift as boards arrive, are assembled, tested, and reviewed.

MNML

MNML is Clickety Split’s next generation of integrated wireless split keyboard hardware.

Instead of building around separate controller and display modules, MNML brings more of the keyboard electronics directly onto the PCB. The goal is a cleaner, more complete keyboard platform while keeping the feel, layout philosophy, and build experience that shaped earlier Clickety Split designs.

MNML is being developed in three layout sizes:

MNML 3x5

A compact, minimal split layout for builders who prefer a smaller key count and a focused typing experience.

MNML 3x5 keeps the design intentionally lean while still supporting the integrated wireless hardware direction that defines the MNML family.

MNML 3x6

A slightly wider version of MNML for those who prefer an additional column while keeping the same compact split keyboard feel.

MNML 3x6 offers a familiar balance between small form factor, layout flexibility, and integrated wireless design.

MNML 4x6

A larger MNML layout for builders who want more keys while staying within the same integrated hardware family.

MNML 4x6 is intended for those who prefer a little more room in their layout without stepping away from the direction of MNML.

Chiisai

Chiisai is a compact wireless controller-style board being developed for future Clickety Split projects and compatible keyboard builds.

Many custom keyboards have traditionally been built around small Pro Micro-style controller boards. These boards provide a familiar way to add a microcontroller to a keyboard PCB, but wireless builds often require additional design considerations around battery charging, USB-C, power routing, protection, and firmware support.

Chiisai is being designed for that space: a small, practical controller-style board that keeps the familiar integration path while bringing more of the supporting electronics into the board itself.

Built around the nRF52840 platform, Chiisai supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), wireless keyboard operation, and ZMK firmware. It is intended to provide a clean foundation for wireless keyboard projects without requiring the keyboard designer or builder to solve as many of the surrounding hardware details separately.

Chiisai also incorporates practical protection mechanisms intended to improve durability and reliability, including protection for VBUS, USB-C data lines, RESET, and reverse-current protection for 3.3V Out (VCC).

Chiisai is designed to support the next stage of Clickety Split hardware while remaining respectful of the open keyboard ecosystem that helped make these projects possible.

Current status

MNML 3x5 and MNML 3x6 have been built and are in testing.

MNML 4x6 PCBs are currently being fabricated.

Chiisai has completed testing, received small revisions, and is being prepared for fabrication.

More details, photos, build notes, and availability information will be added as the boards arrive and testing continues.
