A Quiet Season, and What Comes Next for Clickety Split

A Quiet Season, and What Comes Next for Clickety Split

It has been a while since the last Clickety Split news update.

The shop has been quiet publicly, but it has not been inactive. Over the past couple of years, much of the work around Clickety Split has moved behind the scenes: supporting builders, completing custom work, helping clients with their keyboards, sourcing parts, testing ideas, and thinking carefully about what the next generation of Clickety Split hardware should become.

A lot has changed since the earlier days of the shop. Parts availability, sourcing, shipping, and small-batch hardware have all become more complicated. Rather than simply continuing in the same direction, I started looking more closely at how Clickety Split could become more self-reliant, more practical to build, and better suited to supporting the Canadian keyboard community while also serving builders and clients from around the world.

That quiet work has shaped two major projects now in development: MNML and Chiisai.

MNML (pronounced Minimal) is a new integrated wireless split keyboard direction for Clickety Split. Instead of relying on separate controller and display modules, MNML brings more of the required electronics directly onto the keyboard PCB. The goal is a cleaner wireless build, fewer stacked parts, and a more complete foundation for future Clickety Split keyboards.

Chiisai is a compact wireless controller-style board built around the familiar integration path many keyboard designers already understand. It is being developed to support wireless keyboard builds while bringing more of the surrounding power, charging, USB-C, and protection circuitry into the board itself.

At the same time, earlier Clickety Split designs still matter. Projects like Leeloo, Leeloo-Micro, and Pepito helped shape the design language, layout thinking, and practical lessons behind the hardware being developed today. Some older products and parts may remain available in limited quantities, while others will be kept as reference or legacy support.

Clickety Split has always been a small shop, and a very personal one. Over the years, I have had the chance to work with individuals from all over the world, and those relationships have shaped what Clickety Split is today. Some of the most meaningful work has come from answering questions, doing custom builds, helping people through their keyboard projects, and supporting builders one keyboard at a time.

Taking care of clients has always been a core principle here. Not just in terms of selling products, but in understanding what each person is trying to build and helping bring those ideas to life. That kind of work does not always scale neatly, but it is a big part of what made Clickety Split what it is.

The next chapter is about carrying that care forward while building hardware that is more focused, more integrated, and easier to support over time.

More updates will follow soon, including deeper looks at MNML, Chiisai, the future of legacy designs, and how the shop is being reorganized around this next direction. The In Development page will continue to be the practical place for current status, availability notes, and project updates as these boards move through fabrication, assembly, and testing.

Thank you for being here, and thank you to all the clients, builders, and friends who have worked with me, tested ideas, asked questions, shared feedback, and helped shape Clickety Split along the way. Your input has played a meaningful role in where MNML and Chiisai are today.

This quiet season has been part of the journey. Now it feels like the right time to start sharing that journey again.
